We obtain most of our precious raw materials directly from small producers and cooperatives that are committed to organic cultivation and fair trade. We can always find unusual raw materials for special product concepts. And if you value single-origin creations, you have an enthusiastic partner in us.

Quality assurance for chocolate raw materials

 

When it comes to quality assurance, we meet the highest international standards. We are FSSC certified. We also hold other certifications, including organic, Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance, myclimate, kosher and halal certifications. This means that there is no possibility of food risks. Every single ingredient can be traced back to the producer. Thanks to our extended quality concept (HACCP), we have critical process stages under the best possible control.

We source our cocoa from all the world’s major growing regions, from the Dominican Republic to South America, Africa and Asia. On this map you will find a selection of our long-standing partnerships with cocoa producers and smallholders.

Discover our Fair Trade chocolates

We have been Fair Trade pioneers since 1991. We cooperate directly with partners in the country where the raw materials are grown. Working together with OS3, now known as claro fair trade AG, Chocolat Bernrain developed one of the first ever Fair Trade chocolates.

For over 30 years, we have been sourcing cocoa from El Ceibo in Bolivia and sugar from the Alter Trade cooperative in the Philippines. Over the years, we have built up a large number of partnerships with farmers’ cooperatives all over the world.
